In 1946, after coming back from World War II, Buddy Ledwell teamed up with his dad, Lloy Ward Ledwell, to start what we now know as Ledwell & Son in Texarkana, Texas. Back then, they were in the lumber business. But one day, Buddy needed a specific kind of trailer to haul lumber. So, he rolled up his sleeves and welded it himself.

A neighbor saw it and said, “Where’d you get that? I need one!” And just like that, Buddy and his dad started building trailers and pick-up racks for folks in the community. If a farmer or a feedlot had a problem, Buddy would find a way to solve it—usually with a welding torch and a whole lot of grit.

That hands-on, can-do spirit became the backbone of Ledwell. Over the years, we kept growing, expanding into more industries and tackling bigger challenges. But at the core, nothing’s changed: we build equipment that works as hard as the people who use it.

Today, in Texarkana, we spread out over 100 acres and are four generations strong. We’ve become one of America’s top custom truck and trailer manufacturers, offering everything from water trucks and rollback beds to our patented Gull Wing™ and more.
